To ensure maximum service life and drilling efficiency of your Sharp Drill conical picks, please follow these professional operational standards:
Check the Tool Holder: Ensure the pick box (holder) is clean and free of debris or old broken shanks.
Inspect the Retainer: Verify that the spring sleeve or retaining clip is intact and properly tensioned to prevent the pick from falling out during operation.
Secure Seating: Use a dedicated copper hammer or installation tool to drive the pick into the holder until the shoulder of the pick is flush with the holder face.
Rotation Check: After installation, ensure the pick can rotate freely by hand. Free rotation is critical for the self-sharpening effect.
Monitor Rotation: If a pick stops rotating, it will develop a "flat spot" on one side, leading to premature failure of the tungsten carbide tip.
Replace Timely: Do not wait for the carbide tip to disappear completely. Replace the pick when the steel body begins to show significant erosion to protect the expensive tool holder.
Avoid Overheating: In extremely hard rock, ensure adequate water spraying for cooling to prevent thermal cracking of the carbide inserts.
Check for Missing Picks: Missing picks put extra load on the remaining teeth, leading to a chain reaction of failures.
Clean the Holders: Periodically clear fine dust and mud from the gap between the pick and the holder to maintain free rotation.
